Careers in the Field

The Department of Health Policy and Management

The Department of Health Policy and Management was established in 2001. It was renovated in 2007 and has since then had the present name. The Department of Health Policy and Management offers four programs for undergraduate students and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in health care management. There are two B.B.A. programs. One program studies in the day; the other one studies at night. Both of the programs recruit 45 students each year, however the night program had stopped to recruit since 2013. M.B.A. program recruits 7 students each year, and EMBA program recruits 20 students each year for working students.

The department aims to cultivate the students' capacity for medical business administration by training them with the knowledge of modern technology and in the practical work of management. Health policy drives the health care industry. Whether searching medical databases for the latest treatment, assessing the quality of care provided to patients, managing healthcare costs or influencing legislative issues, health policy management is at the heart of health care.

We cooperate very well with our Chung Shan University Hospital in regard to the building up of technical systems for getting information and the practice of managing therapeutic work technologically.

The school has these noteworthy features

1. Internationalization

We place equal emphasis on theory and practice, and on imparting knowledge and training skills, hoping to cultivate the students' concept of making the full use of manpower together with all the other resources available to the therapeutic industries.

In addition, we encourage students to have international experiences, for example, the oversea visiting for EMBA students and oversea internship for BBA students. We hope that such overseas experiences can expose students to different cultures, languages, medical teamwork, and therapeutic techniques, thus grooming them for futures as health management professions.

2. Industrialization

We provide opportunities for students to receive academic credit for approved internship situations in hospitals. The Internship Program is designed to the academic program by providing "real world" experience prior to graduation.

The students also tour several enterprises, such as pharmaceutics manufacturers and logistics and operations companies, to acquire a multidimensional perspective.

Each semester, the school hosts special speeches by experts from different disciplines. The speeches cover topics ranging from specialties of health management to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary study.

3. Innovation

Members of our faculty serve as visiting scholars with universities in USA and give our students a global view of the Health Management world. Our faculty provides students with the best of both worlds – they are engaged in cutting-edge research in their disciplines, and they are engaged in consulting and collaborations with some of the biggest hospitals and not-for-profits in Taichung region.
